uvulectomy
The uvula is another area of the anatomy that can contribute to snoring. In patients with a large or elongated uvula, breathing during sleep can cause the uvula to vibrate and create the noxious noise of snoring.
Coblation is a clinically proven, FDA approved therapy designed to reduce the size of a large or elongated uvula. During this procedure, radiofrequency energy is delivered to the uvula to gently remove the excess tissue and open up the oral airway.
The therapy operates at a low temperature (much lower than traditional laser or surgical cautery) to gently remove tissue while minimizing damage to surrounding cells. This procedure may be effective in the treatment of snoring.
Uvulectomy using Coblation therapy is performed in-office using local anesthetic, usually in less than 20 minutes. Most patients leave with minor discomfort and continue on with their daily activities with minimal downtime.
